Understanding extract pages

Extraction keeps only what you select and discards the rest, writing a single compact document. Think of it as the positive of Remove Pages: you describe what you want to keep rather than what should go.

Extracted pages retain their original media box, so a page pulled from an A3 plan set stays A3. If you need everything at one size, crop or re-print the result afterwards.

This is the cheapest way to make a shareable excerpt of a long document because nothing is rasterised — the excerpt stays searchable and selectable.

When you would use it

  • Sending only the summary and conclusion of a 90-page study.
  • Isolating the pages of an insurance policy that mention a specific clause.
  • Building a portfolio from selected pages of several project reports.
  • Preparing a handout from a subset of a slide deck exported to PDF.

Practical tips

  • Listing 5,1,3 gives you the pages in that order — extraction doubles as a quick reordering tool.
  • Repeating a page number duplicates that page in the output, which is handy for cover sheets.
  • Use PDF Info first to confirm the page count of an unfamiliar document.

Troubleshooting

Nothing downloads
An empty or invalid selection produces no document. Enter at least one valid page number.
Links inside the excerpt are broken
Internal links that pointed to pages you did not extract have no target left; external URLs still work.
