Understanding png to pdf

PNG is a lossless format built for screenshots, diagrams and anything with sharp edges or flat colour. Converting to PDF preserves that crispness and makes the material printable and easy to distribute.

PNG supports transparency; PDF pages do not have a transparent background in any useful sense, so transparent areas are composited onto white. Design for that if your source has an alpha channel.

Screenshots are the most common input here, and they convert beautifully because their text is already pixel-perfect at the capture resolution.

Troubleshooting

The file is enormous: PNG is uncompressed for photographic content. Convert photos to JPG before building the PDF.
Transparent areas turned white: That is expected; PDF pages are opaque. Bake the intended background into the PNG if white is wrong.
